Mini Review
of Xiaomi Redmi 17 5G
Overview: The Redmi 17 5G price in Bangladesh puts it a clear step above the 4G Redmi 17, and the main reason is the jump to 5G with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. Everything else that made the 4G model popular is still here: a huge 7500mAh battery, a 6.9-inch 120Hz screen, stereo speakers and a headphone jack. The question is whether 5G and a faster chip are worth the extra money. Let's break it down.
The 6.9-inch IPS LCD runs at 120Hz with a 240Hz touch sampling rate, so it feels quick and responsive. Gorilla Glass 7i protects the front, DC dimming and TÜV Rheinland certifications make it comfortable at night, and 825 nits in high brightness mode is fine for most outdoor use. The resolution is still only HD+, though, and that's noticeable on a screen this large. It's good for videos and social media, but not especially sharp.
The camera hardware is unchanged from the 4G version: a 50MP f/1.8 main sensor with PDAF plus an auxiliary lens, and an 8MP selfie camera. Daylight photos are bright and detailed enough for Facebook and Instagram, and night mode helps in dim light. There's no ultrawide or OIS, and video stops at 1080p 30fps on both cameras.
The new Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 is a 4nm chip with Cortex-A78 cores up to 2.4GHz, a clear upgrade over the 4G model's Helio chip. Apps open quicker, multitasking feels smoother and casual games run comfortably. The Bangladesh version has 6GB LPDDR4X RAM, which you can extend to 12GB, and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, plus a microSD slot for up to 2TB (it shares the second SIM slot).
Battery life is excellent. The 7500mAh cell easily lasts two days of normal use, and 45W charging takes it from 0 to about half in 40 minutes. The catch is that the charger isn't included, so you may need to buy one separately. The phone can also share power with other devices at up to 22.5W over a cable.
At 232 grams and 8.8mm thick, it's a big, heavy phone. It has an IP64 rating against dust and splashes, a small RGB light on the back, stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio, LDAC Bluetooth and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. It runs HyperOS 3 on Android 16.
The weak points are the 720p display, a basic camera with no ultrawide or 4K video, the heavy body and no charger in the box.
Pros
- 5G with the 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5
- Huge 7500mAh battery with 45W charging and 22.5W reverse charging
- 6.9-inch 120Hz display with Gorilla Glass 7i and DC dimming
- Stereo speakers, 3.5mm jack and FM radio
- IP64 rating and microSD support up to 2TB
Cons
- Only 720p LCD, no AMOLED at this tier
- No ultrawide camera, OIS or 4K video
- Charger not included in the box
- Heavy at 232 grams
- Side-mounted fingerprint, no IP68
Conclusion: So, is the Redmi 17 5G worth buying in Bangladesh? If you want 5G, a battery that lasts for days, loud stereo speakers and a headphone jack in one phone, it's a sensible choice and a real upgrade over the 4G Redmi 17. But at this tier, some rivals offer AMOLED displays, better cameras and a charger in the box. Get it for battery and 5G, but compare carefully if screen quality or photography matters most to you.
